Triumph TR6 - ZS 175 Rebuild Question
Hi Folks: I'm rebuilding my Stromberg 175 CD's and I'm taking out the throttle shafts to replace the seals. Once that's done I have to reattach the throttle discs. My question is when I put it back together, how do I secure the two flathead screws on the discs? The factory split the ends and flared them so the screws cannot back out which obviously I cannot do. Will red Loctite hold them? The last thing I need is one of those screws finding its way into my new engine. Thanks, Bob

Either a twist from a screwdriver or a gentle pop with a punch & hammer (you don't want to bend the shaft) will do it. I wouldn't trust it to Locktite alone.

Bob, I got new screws. They're split. After screwing them into the disc, just lever the ends apart with a flatbladed screwdriver, enough to insure they don't back out under load. db

Hey Doug: Thanks - way too easy. I never thought to look for new split screws. Problem solved. Now have the carbs down in carb cleaner and will probably put back together this weekend. Broke off a long screw in the float bowl (the inboard middle one) and it took me two nights to get the float bowl off and the screw out. There was so much gasket cement on the float bowl gasket that the screw was literally "welded" to the carb body and the float bowl. Spring's almost here and it's so good to be at the TR again. Lot of work left to do! Cheers, Bob
