Triumph TR6 - Widshield wiper removal

I searched the archives without success. Has anybody removed the wiper and washer assembly from the deck in front of the windscreen? The retaining nut seems to be made of weak material. I want to remove for painting but do not wish to open up a can of worms.

Also, the oil line attachment to the gauge in the Moss catalogue shows a leather washer. When I removed mine, I believe to be original, there was not one. Will it leak without?

Hi John,
I had no problem removing mine when I rebuilt it a couple of years ago...as for the oil line I don't recall if I had a washer there or not

John, I replaced my plastic oil gauge line last year with copper because the plastic kept blowing. I thought it a little unusual that there was no gasket of any kind, but there wasn't and I have not had a leak so far.

My line is also copper. It sounds like the OE was plastic. I would imagine you need some sort of washer for it not to leak.
The HEX nut should just unscrew. Then the black plastic piece should just pull off of the wiper box arm. Be carefull not to loose the washer fluid line down the hole.
