Triumph TR6 - Water path w/o heater?
| My 73 TR6 had it's heater core bypassed when I acquired it. With the head off and after breaking the water return line that runs under the intake manifold, I am wondering about this "bypass" circuit. Apparently, the only purpose for the plumbing from the water pump housing, next to the temp sender, throught the inlet manifold and to the heater valve was for the heater and not for cooling the engine. The Moss catalog shows a plug (Replaces water valve w/o heater) for the rear head water port. Replaing the heater core is a long way off. So I am considering eliminating this circuit and plugging the two water pump ports and the water return at the back of the head. Second option might be to only connect a hose from the head port to the water pump return port. Does anybody have experience with this or suggestions? Gotta love these little challenges!! Thanks! |

| The water run through the manifold was tied into the emission control/driveability scheme employed at the time. You can safely bypass the manifold water run. If you were to look at the PI cars, there is a different tube running back from the housing for the heater core hose and it has no provision for a water run through the manifold. It is shown in the Roadster catalog and is readily available. On this side of the pond you mostly see that PI version part on cars with triple DCOE type carb set ups or on cars where someone has taken the plunge for either the factory PI set up or something like the TWM injection set up. |
