Triumph TR6 - vacuum retard at idle
when the vacuum unit hose is removed, the engine advances 15 degrees....anyone have that happen to them? Could my tr-6 (1975) originally have vacuum retard instead of vacuum advance? Appreciate any comments or help with this. Thanks guys. terry Please use my new e mail: terryeesuen@gmail.com. I will check my old juno account also.....

I think all 6's are retard.

I've never seen a UK car with the capsule connected to the manifold. But retarding at tick-over - hence advancing as soon as the manifold pressure rises upon throttle opening - would be correct. An engine at cruise should need more advance than under load, but no attempt was made to do this on UK engines. Can't help thinking there is some fuel economy to be won in that direction.
