Triumph TR6 - Tachometer 76-TR6

Hi TR6 enthousiasts !
We had a greatwekend here in Quebec so I took the TR6 out for the fisrt time this summer. Absolutely amazing!
I rode with my lovely daughter and she enjoys it as much as I do.
To the point...I kept on hearing a hissing noise the coming from the tachometer. Also the needle kept on shaking up and down. Does this mean its time to replace it and if so where can I get one that is in good shape.
Thanks for your help and support !

LT,

Make sure the cable connection is tight...if the knurled nut has backed off the tach cable and the cable is barely making up to the back of the tach it can do what you describe.

LT,

I had exactly the same problem with my tach.

Simple remedy. I took it apart and found that grease that had been used to lubricate the worm gear had migrated onto the rotating magnet and this was fouling up the mechanism.
I cleaned off all the built up crud, carefully re-lubricated the moving bits and pieces and voila it now works perfectly.

I also initially thought that it was due to cable snagging but it continued to malfunction even after removing and lubricating the cable.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Neil. 73' TR6.
