Triumph TR6 - Old style ignition sw.
| I've had it with the worn out key switch on my '76.I am going to mount an older switch to the console or dash for easier access. The schematics for the old style sw. does not call out terminal numbers or position of wires. Anybody out there, been there/done that? Don't want to fry anymore wires than I have to. Thanks! |

| Ed Probably your best bet is to take an ohmmeter and establish what each terminal does. There is a main power terminal. That is the base terminal. If you turn the key to the left you get the accessory connection so the circuit becomes closed between the main terminal and the accesory terminal. If you turn the key to the right, that is the on position and the main terminal and on terminal will be closed. Finally when you turn the key further to the right you get the start position (the one that is spring loaded and will return back to the on position if you release the key) and the main terminal and starter terminal switch will be closed. The schematic does tell you which wire is which and you can connect them based on what you identify each terminal. In the worst case I don't think you can fry anything because all the wires can be connected to each other (they essentially are when the switch is pushed to the start position) . However, if you are going for trial and error, take the car out of gear because if you accidently get power to the starter and the battery is connected the car will lurch. I don't know if I helped or confused but good luck. |
