Triumph TR6 - oil leak from filler cap
during a long run engine oil comes from the filler cap under pressure and then obviously runs down onto the head and block, any quick help fixes, thankyou.

Ian... I have the same problem but ordering a replacement got me a new cap without all the old wording re oil brands, etc. No character at all. So, I wound some string under the rubber gasket to create "thickness" which improved the situation but did not resolve. Next I'll draw and cut out a circular piece of plastic from a milk jug or something, punch the centre out and slit the radius to centre. That too should cause a more evenly placed downward pressure on the rubber gasket. The other option is to drill out the centre rivet, remove the old rubber and replace it with the new from the other new characterless cap and re-rivet. My 2 cents worth. Good luck... Ken

Ian... Just pulled the rubber gasket from the new cap and installed it on the original. I think it will work fine. A carefully cut piece from an inner tube may have worked too. Ken.

Rubber gasket from a cheapie rad cap and a disc I cut from a plastic container of artichoke with asiago dip installed for thickness sealed the deal. No more oil leak onto the valve cover. You might be able to get away with a disc cut from a margarine container... your call :). Cheers mate!
