Triumph TR6 - occasional whistling noise

My TR6 1973 has started to make a noise mostly when going up a hill. It is like the alternator belt would scream and then it stops and may not do it for the next 15 minutes. When it happens, if I accelerate it will increase the scream intensity. I examined the vacuum hoses and changed the older ones. No change. When I listen under the hood, I can hear a hissing sound coming from the back carb. If I squeeze the main tube going to the canister, the hissing stops. I tried another canister, no change. Any ideas where to look next? Francois.

Hi Francois,
Try disc the canister and plugging any open ends then move on the the various hoses to see if it changes..sounds like you can test it just buy revving the car rather than going for a drive.
