Triumph TR6 - Newfoundland Targa 2006

To Bob Evans NL.

How was this years Targa? Did you particpate? I understand that a TR6 from NS entered. I will be there next year as I will be visiting friends/relatives in Trinity Bay and Torbay will be in the Windstar and not the 6.

Yes, I did participate for the first time this year in Targa Newfoundland as a volunteer. I was Stage Coordinator for the prologue Pleasantville stage here in St. John's. That meant organizing 70 safety marshals and setting up the race course with tape, signage and barricades and handling safety and crowd control. It was a lot of work but a great experience and I also volunteered as a marshal at the final, Torbay stage. I saw that BRG TR6 from Nova Scotia both on the track and at the car show. Very nice car! The very best part for me though was as coordinator I was required to constantly be on the course checking things prior to the start of the race. By this time the course was laid out and the crowd had started to gather. What better way to check out a course than in your own TR6? I must have driven that 3.24 Km course more than 25 times that Sunday and really drove the hell out of the TR6. Got the brakes all hot and fadey and ruined a u-joint but it was a blast! I would need to do a lot of work to make my TR6 Targa-ready but it was a hoot for the day anyway with an audience to boot. That Nova Scotia TR6 was entered in Touring so was more or less along for the ride but you would still need a TR6 in tremendous shape to survive Targa even being mildly competitive. if you want to be a marshal next year I can arrange that.

Bob

Hi Pete:

The last two times I went there to share an ale with the Targa volunteers from Ottawa, The Olde Inn was closed.I think she opens sporadically now but doesn't want to shut down altogether. Is your engine rebuild finished and do you have any pics to send Charlie? I plan on posting a few pics as the cam finally arrived so we will start the rebuild very soon.

Cheers,
Bob

Bob, check your email. Yes engine rebuild is complete, car was on the road since June. Email has details and some pics. Say, I am still thinking of driving the TR6 to Cape Breton next year. It would be great to see you again, and have a pint. Sounda like you had fun at Targa.
Cheers
Pete
