Triumph TR6 - Just TR6 January & Needs work
I have a 1972 TR6 in poor shape. I had that backfire problems just to start. But it only happens on deceleration. I am not sure if it is a carburation or timing problem. I am new to the TR6 so may be someone has some ideas as to where I start. Chris |

| Chris, Check the archives for timing as this could cause the popping on deceleration. Also the bypass valves on ZS could contribute to the popping as well if they are "floating". Check the Bentley for details on both. If you do not have a Bentley manual, get one. Basic timing static try 10-12BTDC. Dynamic with vacuum retard (if it works) connected to lower port on rear carb is 4ATDC. Also check/clean your points and set proper gap. I cannot help you here as I have electronic ignition and never really worked with points before. Do not mess with the carbs until you are confident the timing is set well. Get you a strob light and clean off the crank pulley to see the timing marks. |

| Mine was popping on decel, cause was no oil in the carb dampers. Certainly could be caused by any of the above, but this is pretty easy to check! Rod |

| Thanks for the advice. I'm goimg to use it next time I get a chance to work on my car. Wife always has plans for me that hold me back. |
