Triumph TR6 - Ignition failure
| Last week I was enjoying a late season drive in my 75 TR6 when the engine suddenly died at a traffic light. I assumed an ignition problem since there was no prior stumbling. There was no obvious problem and since an Allison electroninc ignition module was fitted, no simple roadside diagnosis was possible. I returned home courtesy of CAA on a flatbed truck. Diagnosis confirmed that there was no spark at the plug but that the coil primary had continuity and that the electronic module was switching OK (similar to the Pertronix test posted earlier). Cranking with a plug connected directly to the coil output lead (i.e. bypassing the distributor) indicated very strong sparks. Conclusion was that either the distributor cap or rotor was shorting. After new parts were installed this morning, the car started up immediately. New wires were subsequently also fitted since they appeared somewhat crazed. I have heard of cap & rotor problems but am still surprised that they failed without warning. Barry |

| Barry- the rotors do fail without warning. There is a big problem with almost all rotors being sold. I have a list of the good rotors somewhere I just can't remember where. Don't have that problem as I run a Mallory. If it ever runs. |
