Triumph TR6 - Gasket sealant

I will be removing oil sump and timimg chain cover, and wondering if there is a type or brand of gasket sealant that folks recommend. Also what is best way to apply? Any advice appreciated.

When I rebuilt my engine I asked the same question and got many different opinions on the best sealant to use. The opinions weren't necessarily from this BB though. I used good old permatex in the tube. I forget if it was #1 or #2 but it's the one that stays somewhat plyable. The other one dries hard. I didn't use that. Hylomar works well on good flat machined surfaces along with the gasket. Hylomar does not "glue" the gasket as does Permatex and others.The oil pan itself does not have a good flat machined gasket surface so I kind of liked the idea of the sticky permatex. Same with the timing cover. Permatex makes a mess though. Seems like I find it everywhere after I use it.

Pete,

I've had good luck so far with Hylomar on both the timing cover and oil pan...1500 miles and no leaks...well, not any leaks from these two areas!!!

Hi Pete and all members, Check out 'Yamabond' you can find it at any reputable motorcycle shop, About twice the price of any known sealant but worth its credit! It is for machined surfaces and not intended to be used with any gasket, so unfortunatley'Pete' you had better stick to the old method, just get a straight edge on you pan before you place it on the block and do not overtighten the screws
