Triumph TR6 - Electric Gremlins. Need Help!

Hi everyone.

I need some help with some electrical issues.

Recently the charge/ignition light has been flickering on and off even up to about 1500 rev's. Volt meter indicates 12 volts of charge.
Now this afternoon the ignition light does not come on at all when the ignition is turned on. Also the light that comes on when the door is opened also will not work. All other electrical items work as normal. Car starts fine and runs well.

Tension on the fan belt is correct.

Any suggestions? ?Poor ground somewhere?

Cheers Neil P.

Neil Peniston

Neil,
Get a schematic and trace those circuits to ground and or a bullet connector somewhere. If there's a bullet connector between the load and ground, clean it, and apply dielectric grease. Find the ground, burnish the connection and try again. Good luck.

Year of car helps so I can look at correct schematic.

They are not related to each other at all.
The Ignition bulb is controlled 100% from the alternator. Does(did) your volt meter swing from charge to discharge? The bulb could have blown going on and off often.

My 71 has 2 lights that come on when the doors are openend. Year of car and which light??
Generally speeaking though, Doug says it. It is usually a bad ground.
Neil, if you do not have schematics for your TR then go to http://www.advanceautowire.com/
Look at left side of page , go down to "stock schematics" then on right go down to "Triumph TR250-TR6". Pick your year of car.

...and hope that some DPO has not screwed around with the original wiring, changing connections or color coded wiring!!

Hi Neil,

I agree with Rick- check that bulb is not burned out and the 2 are independent of each other.

Check the interior light bulb as well.

I suspect a dirty ground like you and Don and Rick suggest on the interior light
