Triumph TR6 - distributor ID
| Hi all and season greetings I have a MGA with MGB engine and the distributor has cable tach connection. I try to ID what it is and was told it may be triumph someone extensively modified. The distr is 22D 41385A 17 73 and shall be TR8. My MG is 4cyl. Just very curious why to go to such truble modifiyng? See picture. Martin

| Martin Who knows what lurks in the minds of a British Car owner. I can't fathom why anyone would want to put a TR8 distributor in a MG. I am not sure a TR8 distributor (8 cylinder) would work in a 4 cylinder but I have been surprised before. Sounds like the guy had a part that was cheap and didn't want to spend any money. So he worked with what he had. |

| Martin-The 41385 distributor is from a 1972-76 Tr6. Someone has removed the vacuum retard capsule and added a 4cyl cam&cap. I think the MGB would normally have a vacuum advance. Hopefully, whoever installed the distbutor had it recurved for the MGB engine. Probably, the TR6 dist. was used because it had a mechanical tach drive, whereas the later MGBs used an electic tach. | The other problem you have is that the guy installed it upside down. Nuk...Nuk...Nuk. Rick |
