Triumph TR6 - Distributor Drive Gear
I am in the middle of an engine rebuild and discovered the stem that connects the distributor drive gear to the oil pump (see picture) is a tiny bit loose. I have heard horror stories about the pin shearing and cutting off the oil supply to the motor. Most of the parts guys carry a replacement pin and I was wondering if anyone has been down this road before. The Pin appears to be press fit. My guess is that I should have my local machine shop remove and press a new pin in.

| Hi Don - It's not a question of to do or not to do as it's about how to do it. I know there are new pins available so my 1st question is does the pin itself wear a bit and allow the stem to move or is it the stem or the gear that wears? I remember reading something a couple of years ago where a fellow Triumph dude ended up pressing the pin out and tapping it and installing an allen type flush bolt in place of the pin. Im just wondering if anyone has gone down this road before as i'm trying to get an idea of what I may be in for. I'm always looking for ways to improve my TR especially when it comes to weak points as this drive gear design seems to be. |

| according to TRF plate AL, the pin is available and can be driven out . So do it. |
