Triumph TR6 - Chevy 4.3 V6 Conversion
I am considering an engine and transmission swap on my 1972 TR6. The drive train is in much need of repair, so I am thinking of swapping over to a Chevy 4.3 V6 rather than rebuilding the 2.5 in line six. The advantage that I see is almost doubling the horsepower with better fuel economy, and for my wife getting away from the standard transmission, and going with the R700 automatic overdrive transmission. Has anyone made this conversion? If so, what kind of problems did you encounter? Thanks in advance.

The 4.3 is a fair motor for a truck. I would think different than that for a 6. If your gonna do a swap, might as well do a V8. Lots of write ups about on that.

Arnold, before deciding to rebuild my Triumph engine last year I considered doing a transplant but got cold feet... The chevrolet 4.3 was up at the top of my list but I couldn't find anyone that had traveled this road before me. I wanted a powerful engine but didn't want to alter the sheet metal on my body at all. The 4.3 may possibly fit without body mods.I owned a chevy Astro Van in the mid eighties with the 4.3 equiped from chevrolet with a Rochester quadrajet. Man was that van fast...200 hp would be more than enough for the TR6... Just my humble opinion...

I've owned 4 Astros and twins and have one now. As they are close to bullet proof. Would be my last choice for a motor, well maybe not last , but you get my drift

I'd say it would be an awesome machine after conversion. Best of luck if you go that way.
