Triumph TR6 - checking the Differential

Hi Folks

Not knowing the pre-condition of my Differential unit. I was wondering if there are any off the car checks that I can do prior to refitting the unit? I did consider using a rubber wheel attached to a drill and driving the main hub?

Always a pleasure to receive your help and advice.

Folks

Just read the archives, one dated 4 Oct 02 from Bill Braford suggests washing out the Diff with varsol. Would the varsol not damage the seals etc? Would I not be better washing it out with the normal oil?

Just inspect the gears for wear, cracked teeth and smooth motion. Look for play in the bearings. Flush out any metal filings with oil and bolt it back together and put in fresh oil. Not much to go wrong with the diff. They last long and generally don't give a problem. I have never heard of a diff failure.
