Triumph TR6 - Car hard to restart

Hi Everyone,
I have a stock 1970 TR-6 and when I first start it up in the morning it start right up, but after it's warm and I try to restart, I have crank and crank and crank till it starts. Is it the heat from the manifold or the engine and would a carb. shield solve the problem?

While it's not recommended that the gas pedal be pressed during initial start with the choke out, I have to press the pedal about half way in when starting warm. Some use a heat shield - I don't.
