Triumph TR6 - BPNW cam DOES NOT FIT
Installed a BPNW 270 CAM. Tried to mount a TRF OEM stock Cam keeper...the little C shaped thingie that holds the cam in. Won't fit the groove in the cam. The keeper is right at 4.9mm thick. The groove is closer to 4.4mm. Talked to Dave at TRF. He agreed with me to mill or lapp the keeper to fit. BPNW also suggested reducing the thickness of the keeper. No one suggested returning either part or machining the cam. I'm gonna work the keeper down to a just tight fit. Comments??? Am I doing the right thing here? Which side of the keeper should go against the cam and which against the block presuming I only lapp on side and not both? Thanks. db

Doug, I'm in a bit of brain fade here, but I seem to recall it as being flat and if so, which side shouldn't matter. As far as thickness goes, you're looking at a difference of about .016". I take it down a bit below a tight fit though. "Tight" to me implies an interference fit and while it should be a close tolerance fit, it should still move freely within the groove.

Doug , whose to say the cam is wrong. I know of a dozen people with that cam.

Steve, Thanks. Agreed. FIgured about 0.002" clearance would work. Gotta check end float in the Bendix manual. That should clear things up some. db

Steve, Bendix says 0.004-008" end float so I figure to go to the near side...0.004 to allow for wear. Slowly, but coming along. Thanks for comments. db
