Triumph TR6 - angle drive speedo leak?
Will this damn tranny ever stop leaking? It seems the speedo area is leaking fluid now... no wonder after putting the silly thing in and out and in and out 5 times in the past 3 years and no doubt hooking the speedo up a dozen times.... Can anyone out there tell me if a new angle drive should seal up this confounded new leak... or do I have to remove the whole speedo gear train as well. All dry everywhere else.. or so it seems... I would just like to wake up 1 morning and not find a small pee puddle below my TR6 Tranny. TRF blue shows the same angle drive for J Type as well as the A type and regular transmission... I'm just not sure if the angle drive contains all the O rings etc. to plug this mother up. Yours truly T.R.P. Nightly.

Garry If you have oil leaking from the speedo angle drive connection it is because the o rings in the drive itself are leaking and the whole train will need to be pulled out. The angle drive itself is not meant to be the oil seal. Regards Mike

Thanks Michael... I expected as much. I note a seal ring and a special looking seal bush of some sort in the manual ... I wonder who might have this ?? Would you recommend getting the angle drive as well as these seals and doing complete I suppose ? I'm in Brampton... should hook up some time.

Hi Garry Haven't needed to buy the speedo train parts but I am sure the regulars can get it. British Auto Sport in Troy Ontario makes a nice drive in the TR6. He may not have it in stock but it is likely a week away at best. You can try JD automotive in Rexdale. He rebuilt my tranny. He may have the parts around. If he doesn't don't bother to have him bring them in. It is probably easier to go through British Auto Sport. You can try Drake in Vancouver as well. If you go to the US suppliers insist they ship via US Post to avoid usury brokerage fees from the likes of a certain brown courier company. Shipping post doesn't result in any brokerage fees. But you can't ship too large a part using post. As far as the angle drive goes- if yours is in good shape I wouldn't spend the money on a replacement. Of course it can fail a week down the road. Up to you whether you want to spend the $$. By all means we should hook up. I am in south east Gtown near Norval (Winston Churchill and 10th sideroad) drop me a line at gendeliveryATcogecoDOTca

Thanks Mike for the local parts guys... I wasn't aware of these... Having had some serious bad luck with TRF I have moved to another supplier in Newmarket / NEMA Distributors who have been quite good so far, with good stock and pricing... I'm going to look up this British Auto Sport and give them a ring in the morn. I'll get to your email with some pics of the beast. CFB Garry
