Triumph TR6 - Air/fFuel Ratio Gauge
We recently finished the major engine overhaul on our 73 TR6, and I am interested in anyone's recent experience with using a narrow band air/fuel ratio gauge to help with fine tuning the Stromberg's. I am considering the NORDSKOG K702 Analog Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge fitted with a pair of O2 sensors. This is the only true analog gauge I have found. I suspect that the LED type gauges will wash out in sunlight. I am considering pairing this gauge with a vacuum gauge mounted in a pod on the dash where the ashtray is. Comments on other websites about the usefulness of the narrow band gauge range from purely worthless toy to excellent tuning tool. This is all speculative at this point. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with using these gauges? Thanks, Bob

I'd go wide band or nothing.

NGK has a wide band kit for around $350. That's what I'm looking at.

Thanks, Don & Steve, for your comments. Innovate also has some interesting units. I like the G3 analog kit for $289. Although, I have received comments that the air/fuel ratio readings will be all over the scale when used with our older ZS carbs. I take this to mean that it may be a waste of effort and $$ to try to tune our old LBC to this precision. Innovate has a users forum. There are several blogs (is that the term?) relating to Triumphs - use the search tool for "Triumph." I am still interested in exploring this further. Thanks Bob

I would change your carbs to Su's if your going to do this. They are a lot easier to make changes. There are a few web sites that have air/fuel readings corresponding to jet sizes.
