Triumph TR5 - Extra Hole in the boot

Hello TR5 and TR250 owners,


I am a regular poster over on the TR6 site. There is a current thread about " Why This Access Plate...?? and it appears all TR6s and even TR250s have this extra hole. No one on the TR6 board knows its purpose.

It is a hole about 3" in diameter and is at the very back center of the spare tyre well. Our cars have this hole covered over by a circular plate.
Maybe you chaps with TR4s, TR5s, and TR250s might know what its' original purpose was.
