Triumph TR3 - Wire Wheels
My TR3A has the 48? spoke wheels and the rims seem to be bent. Is the best solution to simply replace them or is there any hope of straightening them. I've been driving with them on for a while and putting up with the slight wobble. Appreciate any help

In my humble opinion, 48 spoked wire wheels are not strong enough to take the abuse they get. You need to use 60 spoke. Once your rims get the wobble, they can be "tuned" if the rim itself is not damaged. How ever a very costly job due to the hours of adjusting the spokes and maybe here and there a replacement. After that the band needs to be replaced once the tips have been ground down. For the amount you will spend per wheel, get new ones. You are very fortunate to live in Delaware. British Racing Green in Newark can get everything you need and gives you good discounts on high volume purchases. If you use their online shopping and pay attention to the rules and stipulations you can get even better discounts. In other words, order via the website and DO NOT CALL at all. I have chrome 60 spokes on mine, however I have not had the opportunity to drive mine as we are still in the rebuilding stage.

Thanks Robert, I will get new wheels. For future reference, I did find a service in Delaware that will refurbish the wheels on 3901 N. Market Street -- web site www.vikingwheel.com, but in my case, its better to just get new ones -- thanks

You need to be sure that the new ones you buy are straight and true. For the longest time, many bought new wire wheels and questioned why they ware as bad as the old ones. It's because they were not "tuned" before they were sold. They had to go to a wire wheel specialist to have them trued up. Don Elliott, 1958 TR3A (with steel wheels). I bought my TR brand new in 1958 and, at that time, steel wheels were "high tech". No one wanted the problems they got with wire wheels all the time. My steel wheels have over 165,000 miles on them. http://www.britishcarforum.com/ubbthreads/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1919&sort=0&page=0&sortby=&sorttime=&sortdir=
