Triumph TR3 - Wire Wheel Hub/Spline
attempting to refurbish the original hubs/splines for wire wheels on the TR3 I am finishing. Was not going to paint them thought that most of the paint would scrape off when the wheels are mounted/dismounted. Was thinking about having them powder coated. Anyone try this approach?. If so how did it hold up?

I don't have wires on my cars, but I would think that not coating the splines themselves would be the sensible thing to do. A little grease before putting the wheels on, but no paint. Just FYI, I have read that the splines are supposed to have a little flat on the top of the peak, not sharp. Careful inspection of all of them on the adapters and the inner ones on the wheels would be sensible, too. Not trying to be a know-it-all, just something to look for.

Thanks for the advice. Think I will try and derust the entire hub (including splines)and paint it after taping off the splines. Anyone done anything different?

I fyou are going to "derust" the splines by blasting, I would use the services of a soda blaster, don's use silica sand, although black beauty slag media might be acceptable. Al Christopher
