Triumph TR3 - Windshield Washers

Can anyone advise where the switch (Mechanical pump type) is located for the windshield washer on a TR3A. Lots of cars seem to have the washer nozzles but most that I have seen seem to be unconnected. I am assuming that these were a North American Option.

Tom-On the first TR3A I owned, the washer pump was located a couple of inches to the left of the the tach. There should be 2 1/2" holes drilled in the steel dash. These are used for the heater switch and OD, if fitted. My car didn't have OD, so one of the holes was used for the washer pump. I don't know where the "offical location for the washer pump would if OD and a heater was fitted.

TeriAnn Wakeman's web site has a picture of washer pump switch: http://cruzers.com/~twakeman/TR/gallery_TRdetails.htm

It looks like it is to the left of the glove box at the bottom.

Good Luck

Just back from a month in England and France.

There were two suppliers of the windscreen washer system. One was Tudor with a glass bottle and the second was made by Trafalgar with the whitish plastic bottle.

Mine was an option which was installed by the dealer where I bought the car brand new. Mine is the Trafalgar one. The push button rubber bulb was mounted in a new hole drilled by the dealer over near the heater rheostat and my overdrive switch. The Trafalgar body behind the dash is too large to go where TeryAnn shows it. Maybe the Tudor can go there but mine would never fit.

At TRA in 1991, the chief judge told me that it had to go where TeryAnn shows it. He had the blueprint right from the TR factory. When I asked him where the drawing was done he replied "England". When I asked him where the steering wheel is placed on a car in England, he replied on the right side. Logical for a UK RH drive car, is it not ?

Since it was a dealer installed option you can put it where mine is conveniently placed with no loss of points by the judges at TRA or VTR.
