Triumph TR3 - windscreen washer pump mounting
| Where was the windscreen washer pump mounted? I am just completing the restoration of a 1961 TR3A that has been under restoration for 15 years by 3 or 4 different owners and nobody remembers where or how the washer pump was mounted. In the manual it shows the pump mounted between the instrutment panel and the glove box. My dash has no such hole. I am assuming that the pump must have been mounted below the dash on some sort of a mounting bracket. Does anybody have any pictures or descriptions of such a bracket? Thanks Jim Herbert |

| TRA says it goes there. I bought my TR3A brand new in 1958 and it was "dealer installed" just above the knobs for the heater fan rheostat and the overdrive switch. It never left the factory with one installed. In 1991, I was docked points in the concours at TRA in Ohio because it wasn't where your photo shows it. But there were two brands of washers. One was the Tudor and maybe the push bulb for that model is small enough to fit there. Mine is from Trafalgar and it would have never fitted there. There is not enough space for the larger bulb plunger squirter on mine. At TRA, they told me they had drawings from the factory that showed where it should go. I asked where was that drawing done. "In Coventry, England". And where was the steering wheel in that British drawing ? "There was no steering wheel - it was a sectional drawing". And where would the steering wheel have been in that English car built in England according to a drawing drawn by a British draughtman who drew it in England ? You see what I mean. It would be logical to have it there next to the pull choke knob if the car was right hand drive. Put it where you want it and use the same story. It was dealer installed.
