Triumph TR3 - TR4 seats in a TR3 ?

The TR3 I recently bought appears to have TR4 seats.
My question is why someone would do this. Are they better than the originals. Should they be changed back ?

Previous owners do these things because that's all they know, that's all they can afford, or that's all the time they have to do a repair. For example, if your friend has a pair of TR4 seats and your TR3 has none, you say "how much?" and he says $20. You'd pay up to $300 or so for good, correct ones. The 4 seats bolt up, and you're off down the street.

Do you think they're bad? Probably not. But there are lots of people who know which seats are supposed to be in your car, and they'll be pleased to tell you how unoriginal your car is. You'll start to get tired of this and maybe react as rudely as you percieve their remark to be. And in the bigger shows you will be penalised for any little thing like that.

You'll probably be looking from now on for a good pair and some day you'll find them. E-bay has a pair right now. And they will again.

Make your car stop and go as well as you can, then worry about the seats. It should be just about the last thing you restore.

You can actually buy new ones.
