Triumph TR3 - TR3 Small Mouth Nose
I have a TR3A here and would like to go to the "small mouth" nose. I was going to hammer one out of aluminum but had a question. Looking at photographs of the small mouth vs large mouth. The headlights look to be mounted further apart than they are in the large mouth. Is this true? Does anyone know? Thanks

The headlight pods are like belly buttons.. Tr2/3 they are outies TR 3A they are inies. Outies are much rarer! If you look at your 3A apron, the lower half of the apron where the headlight pod is, is recessed back to the pod.The pod on 2/3's extends past the apron. If you tried to put a TR3A apron on a TR2/3, it would not fit unles you created a depression on the inner fender for the headlight bucket. Going the other way should not be a problem. As far as center to center, they should be the same. Ambitious undertaking ... Good luck! Brian

Thanks for the reply Brian. I like the belly button scenario. Re-visiting some photographs I also noticed that on the small mouth nose - the area just above the turn signal lights is recessed and in fact looks to continue the horizontal profile from the front fender. In other words the this area is recessed were the large mouth would come straight across. If anyone out there has a small mouth nose, I could use a measurement from the back of the nose where the hood is located to the front of the light bucket. With that measurement I can complete my wood buck and begin fabricating the nose. Again thanks for the prompt reply Dave Paqua TR3A
