Triumph TR3 - tr3 carb
hello i am new to this site and i have a question about the tr3 carbs. i am wonderin, on the first carb only it has a little metal tube running out of the bottom of it that looks as if it would lead to the butterfly inside. what does this tube does and where does it connect to? THANKS

kevin, it sounds like someone has cut off the vacuum advance line. the small tube line out from the bottom of the front carb. will connect to the vacuum advance unit on your distributor. if you don't have any tr parts catalogs, click on www.the-roadster-factory.com www.mossmotors.com www.victoriabritish.com their catalogs are free. payne

can the TR3 still run without this line? THANKS!

P.S. what does this line do?
krk kevin
kevin, i would think the engine will run better if the line is connected. this is for the haynes workshop manuel "the vacuum control consists of a diaphragm, one side is connected by a small bore tube to the carburettor, and the other side to the contact braker plate. depression in the inlet manifold and the carbuettor, which varies with engine speed and throttle opening, causes the diaphragm to move, so moving the contact breaker plate, and advancing or retarding the spark. a fine degree of control is achieved by a spring in the vaccuum assembly." if you are working on your tr yourself you need to find a workshop manuel it would be a great help to you. good luck, payne
