Triumph TR3 - TR-3 radiator duct

I bought a fiberboard radiator duct fom Moss a year ago. I know this was on the TR-3 originally (I bought my 1959 new) but as I remember they didn't last very long. I don't have a clue how they mount or in what orientation (valance, front apron, etc). I have the car apart getting the radiator cleaned and am starting to put it back together. Any clues??

The TR2 and TR3 did not have or need the fiber-board air deflector. Both had the shaped metal duct that you can see easily in the front valance of a TR2.

My TR3A (Comm. No. TS 27489 LO) was built Feb. 14, 1998. It did not have an air deflector. About June or July, 1958, everyone in a hot summertime place complained about over-heating, so the factory came up with this after thought.

Spray paint the 3 parts several coats of paint - the same color at you car (body-color).

There should be 3 pieces. They should be connected together with connector clips that should have come with the kit. These are usually brass and look like the ones you might find in a stationary shop or Staples of Office Supplies where tou push one through the holes and bend out the "wings" flat. Assemble the 3 parts together.

The top fits up above the top of the rad up to the valance and the two sides fit between the side edges of the rad and the grille.

These latter side pieces are held near the bottom (there should be holes in the fiber-board, one on each side fiber piece) where the 2 chromed tubular parts about 5" long are bolted to the inner front fender near the concave recess where the parking lights fit. These tubular parts come forward through the grille and turn up "L" where the front bumperettes (over-riders) are bolted.

The best way to fit the air deflector is in one piece after the 3 pieces have been joined together. Complete all the re-assembly of the rad, hoses, valance etc. With the grille still off, fit the air deflector up through the grille opening till the top wedges at the top of the rad and the inside curve of the front valance. Then bolt the tubular pieces throught the holes in the air deflector and the inner fender. Tighten them from under the front fenders with the front wheels off and the front end up safely on jack stands. Then fit the grille (with the parking lights and wiring attached) over the "L" ends of the tubular parts. With the grille still hanging loose, attach the wiring for the parking lights and check that they work.

Then tighten the grille to the valance with 8 tiny slotted screws and install the front bumper. Tighten the bolts holding the "L" ends of the tubular parts to the top nut inside the top of each bumperette.
