Triumph TR3 - Testing Distributor Vacuum Advance

Greetings all,

I'm testing the vacuum advance unit on my TR3A distributor with a Mity-Vac. When I apply vacuum, the advance moves the distributor, but it only holds vacuum for a brief moment. How well should it hold vacuum before releasing?

I test vacuum advance units by sucking on either the tube coming out of them or a tube attached that is known to be good, then placing my tongue over the tube opening. If the suction on the tongue drops then the vac advance unit is shot.
