Triumph TR3 - SU Carb Rebuild

Greetings. I'm looking for recommendations for rebuild & tuning manuals for H6 carbs. If you've discovered your manual was thorough and really helped in your rebuild and maintenance of those carbs, I want to hear from you.

It's really quite simple. Follow the manuals. Keep all the parts for carb 1 together and don't mix them with the other carb. You may need to change the brass rods that go through the centers. If so, careful taking out the tiny screws for the round butterfly. Note which way they came out and be sure to put then back the same way. They look round but the edges are chamferred in one direction for proper closing. You will need a reamer or access to a shop that can ream out the inside diameter in the new bushings so your new brass shafts will rotate smoothly. Ask your supplier about bushing and shaft kits in matching sets that may eliminate this need. Do not scratch or sand the insides of the top vacuum chamber where the piston rises. Just wipe the inside diameter with a cloth soaked in solvent to clean them. Also for the pistons. Those groves on the piston OD act as a seal - known as a labyrinth seal. The air rushes between the piston and the bore, then loses its flow energy in the first groove in the form of turbulence. Then the remaining air leaks more slowly towards the next groove where more turbulence occurs, and so on. This makes the "seal" work. I also have a general repair book by Haynes on all the SU carbs. I've also seen a video that shows how to do it.

There is a manual on line that might be useful here:

Thanks very much gents.

Hey Terry, This may come a little after the fact. Joe Curto at http://www.joecurto.com/ cleaned and rebuilt my H6's for a reasonable price. Great service. My nasty old carbs look great. I won't be able to run them till the snow melts but I am very pleased.
