Triumph TR3 - Steering columns
| The earlier TR-3a that has the bolt in pedal box on both sides (for lh or rh drives)came with a one piece steering column, whereas the later car with only one pedal box came with a two piece steering column that splits in the engine compartment. Other than ease of removal, does one or the other have a benefit? |

| It was changed to a 2-piece design to provide the benefit that if you were in a head-on collision, or a rear-ender, you might have a better chance of survival without being speared by the steering column. Some might call it a collapsible steering column. Other than this, during normal driving, they work exactly the same. |
