Triumph TR3 - Speedometer Cable
I have a 1968 OD Transmission with an angle drive dog. Is the 96" OD Cable neccersary or can I use the 66" standard? My speedo works sporadically with the 96". Any thoughts?

The length of the cable shouldn't be an issue unless it it stretched too tight or kinked. Check that you have enought length of the square section on the end of the cable to fully engage the drive on the OD tranny (These things break off and don't get noticed). If you need a new cable core, let me know and I will look through my stock of NOS stuff to see if I have the right one. Check the other end of the cable, on the distributor, too. Al Christopher

I resolved the issue by, first of all buying a 72" cable. Then I followed my friends wisdom and made sure only 3/8ths of an inch projected into the Speedometer. To shorten the cable I had to grind the square section that enters the transmission. Now it fits well, the speedo works and without sticking or jumping. Now to resolve the tach issue and we should be in great shape.
