Triumph TR3 - Sidescreens

I recently purchased a set of new sidescreens (from Moss) to complete my restoration project ('61 TR3A) and found that they don't fit at all well - there is approx. a 2" gap at the top where they should tuck into the top. This is fairly consistent from the windshield to the back. I have asked both the local distributor and the tech. rep. at Moss who both say this is normal & just put in a vise & bend. My problem is where do I try & bend, heat is not an option because of the covering, and I am concerned about breaking one of the welds inside if I get the wrong place. Can anyone give me some advice on this problem please.

Tom, that a tough one, I too had the same problem. I mounted the sidescreens to the door and bent them in shape from there.

Good Luck

To Tom, Russ and other side-screen TR owners thinking of getting new side-screens.

I know it's too late for you two (plus a TR3A friend from Michigan) where the gap was open at the top, but when I was doing my restoration during 1987 to 1990, I sent my bare frames for the side-screens to Roadster Factory and they sent them out to Larry Learn about 10 miles from there and they came back about 6 months later beautifully done. As I had bought my new top from Roadster Factory too, I was able to specify the color and the texture I wanted. I had them all made of a higher quality fawn or tan color.

Since they were my original frames, they fit beautifully.

I have another option for you both. Do as I do. In 12 summers (67,000 miles), the top has been up only about 2,500 miles and the sidecurtains even less. My 3-week trip from Montreal to Portland Oregon was "top down" the whole way (7220 miles). I just got back from VTR in Minnesota (2819 miles) - all top-down. Same for Mid-Ohio last month (1920 miles). In fact, except for concours shows, the top hasn't been up since I left VTR in Colorado last August and since then, I've driven over 9,500 miles.

BTW, I got 4th in class in the autocross at VTR and 2nd (383 points) in my judged concours class next to the winner (388 points) who also was awarded "Best of Show".

People can't believe how new my top and sidecurtains look.

Buy proper padded vinyl bags to store your nice new top and sidecurtains in your "boot" and don't put your heavy tool box and spare generator on top of them.
