Triumph TR3 - Sidecurtain Window Repairs
Greetings all, I'm replacing the plexiglass stationary windows (as opposed to the sliding panels) in my sidecurtains. Both stationery pieces are currently missing. I plan to have new panels cut by my friendly plexiglass shop here in Indy. I notice from photos that there appears to be an edging or capping along the inside vertical edge of the stationary window. If so, what is its function? Does it keep the two windows from sliding against each other? Is it essential to have it in place? Also, what is the amount of overlap between the stationary and sliding windows, measured horizontally, when the sliding window is fully closed? Given that the curtains are primarily for "emergency use", I'm going to try a DIY repair in lieu of having them sent out for the full Monty. Many thanks! Bill Stagg 1961 TR3A

All, I now have a humble, seviceable pair of sidecurtains. Thanks to everyone who sent help offline. For those who might be wondering, I gather that the stationary window should be around 1/32" thick. A rubber sealing strip is added to the rear vertical edge of the window, and a steel edge capping strip is added on top of that. I secured 1/6" plexiglas for my stationary windows, and they are sturdy enough (and too thick for the rubber and steel strips) that I mounted them without the support strips. They work great, and the vision is not interrupted by the support strip. What I lose in some wear between the two pieces of plexi when they slide is acceptable, given the low cost of the repair. By the way, when you are ready to sew in your new stationary windows, do NOT use your better half's too-small thimble to push the needle the hundred or so strokes required. Trust me on this. Get a thimble that fits your (fatter) finger. Ok...let it rain...I'm ready. Thanks! Bill Stagg 1961 TR3A.

Ok...1/6" would be a bit thick... I used 1/16" plexiglas. Cost $10 bucks each for panels cut to specs. The sliding window is a bit snug, but fortunately the fuzzy channel is well worn. Bill
