Triumph TR3 - Shim Shim Sheree

When putting shims in place, is it advisable to give them a light coating of machine oil or other anti-corrosion protection? I spent a bit of time cleaning up the shims I removed from between the axles and hubs, and I'm wondering about "shim protection" in general.

If you understood the title of this thread, you listened to Burl Ives too much way back when...

I'd oil them if you have them out, They'll look prettier when you take tham apart next time - say in 30 or 40 years.
