Triumph TR3 - Rubber Buffers on Axle
When I removed the rubber buffers from the rear axle of the TR3A, I noticed that they were positioned to hit the middle of the frame below. When replacing them and wiring the new ones in, what's the proper position on the axle in relation to the check strap? My buffers were just to the inside of the check straps; that is, they were too far toward the differential. Is that the correct position? Are the buffers intended to hit the check strap, or the underside of the body? Pictures sent to showing "original" axles seem to suggest that the bumpers would miss the check straps. By the way, the new buffers are good, hard rubber, but the ones that came off were the consistency of foam rubber. Must be all that grease flinging... Bill Stagg 1960 TR3A

I can't tell without going to look (only in April) but I think these rubber bumpers are supposed to be in line with the frame. Don

Hi Bill: Don is right they are supposed to line up with the frame. If you have been victimised by somebody selling you lousy 3rd world rubber attach a good piece of home market rubber to the frame. It will do just as good a job as the original.
