Triumph TR3 - rotor thickness

Does anyone know the minimum thickness allowable for a 3A rotor? Thanks, Marty
marty scott

Marty-The min. rotor thickness should be cast or stamped on the recessed area of the hub. Mine is stamped .450".
Berry

Hi Berry:As I recall the thickness new on mine was .50.However the maximum allowable reduction(resurfacing)is.060.
Chuck

I found all kinds of references to max. amount to be removed, however I don't know if the rotors on my car have ever been resurfaced. Therefore, I was wondering what the minimum dimension allowable is. When I pull the hubs apart I'll take a look at the backs and see if there is a number stamped on them like Berry mentioned. Thanks Guys, Marty

After 80,350 miles (and after sitting idle for about 17 years) my front brake rotors were rusty and scored. I had them turned down to nice clean smooth metal. They were 0.500" before and 0.470" after machining. After another 70,000 miles they are still like they were in 1990.

Therefore I would assume you can turn them down to 0.450" thick with no problem. But take a bit off at a time and re-measure. You don't want to take off more than you need to. That way, they will still be able to be turned again in about 30 years from now.
