Triumph TR3 - Rear seal mandrels??
The reassembly of the engine is long overdue and started today. There is no mandrel here, so using the crank with bearing shells, the rear seal was applied with Hylomar and torqued onto the block and rear main cap. There is a skim coat of Hylomar between the halves of the rear seal. In this part of the world, it would be very hard to let go of your only crankshaft to have it turned down in a spot to move to the highly touted improved seal. Is this going to work?? The newly ordered thrust washers were std since the size on the old ones was in a to me strange location and remained in hiding until today. They are +.004. Fortunately, the engine had evidently just had the lower end done and the thrust washers fit perfect as is.

Do you mean you are going to use the old thrust washers? I would think the standard ones you ordered would be too thin. The crank rear seal should be fine, they aren't perfect, but you have to love the old saying about marking your territory.

Yes, I am reusing the thrust washers. They are comfortably within tolerances.

Chris-It is a little late to chime in on the mandrel, but the dimensions are in the Autopress manual, maybe others. It is a easy lathe job. The seal will probably leak anyway. Berry Price
