Triumph TR3 - radiator drain tap install

While removing the lower radiator drain tap on my 60 TR 3A, the female threaded fitting into which the brass drain tap (Moss part # 660-010) screws became detached from the radiator unit.

Does anyone have a fix for this problem which does not entail removing the radiator from the car and brazing or soldering the female fitting back onto the radiator.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Without looking at mine (it's cold out there), I'd say you better pull the radiator. If it twisted the soldered in fitting from the bottom tank of the radiator, the only good way to resolder it is when that surface of the tank is horizontal. Good excuse to have the thing rebuilt or cleaned out anyway.

That said, there might be an expandable rubber plug to get you by until the mood strikes you to take off the front apron, etc. A radiator shop will give you better advice than me, they might be able to do it on the car, but I doubt if they want to.

Did you fix it?

Ended up pulling the radiator. Thanks for your help.

Nice of them to make you pull the front end of the car to get it out, eh? But I guess that's the price you pay for those shapely lines. If your car is still exploded, you might think about replacing the timing chain and tensioner (and crank seal) while you're in there.
