Triumph TR3 - points melt down

I have just gotten my dad's TR3A and it has bee sitting for 4 years. I had a fuel issue(blocked line). So I pulled fuel tank, new fuel line etc. Anyway, I'm trying to get the pump to pump fuel and smoke starts comming from the distributor. I look under the cap and the plastic post that the points pivot are on is melted in half! Any ideas I am really a newbie and am puzzled.
