Triumph TR3 - painting, colors and finishes

Can someone clarify the painting scheme for the body. On a 1962 TR3B was the body tub, (top and bottom, engine bay, trunk, etc.) all the same color as the outside. I will be starting from primer so now is the time to get it right. Were there any areas on the body that were always a standard color but not a body color.

My frame will stay all black.

I will in the future need to locate the other paint scheme information I once read about somewhere, for the engine, transmission, etc. colors, so anyone that can help on that list I would greatly appreciate. I may not get to those pieces for some time yet but I can print and save the information now.

I would also like advice on sealing metal seams. For durability and the life of this rebuild, I am considering having all floor seams sealed since new floors, sills, and rockers were installed. The seam sealer applied by the body shop would help prevent future corrosion of those areas and should help keep the water out. All purist and practical comments would be appreciated.

Finally, any advice on paint coatings for the underside (regular paint, rockguard, undercoat, ?) would be appreciated.

I will not be completing this car to win a concourse competition, but I am shooting for a clean car, with some improvements, that can be driven near and far and enjoyed.

Thanks in advance

Doug

I'm kinda liking liquid nails construction adhesive for seam sealer this time around. Should stick and stay fexible for a long time. Rope caulk works ok for front fender and trans tunnel mounting. I think the whole body was painted the same color, under the dash was still red primer on my 58 in less visible areas. But I like to get as much of that as possible with at least a similar color. I like the frame black, too, although I have read that they were sometimes just painted with whatever was in the gun. Some controversy over the hoodstick (top bow) color. Some say body color, some say black, some say off white. A restoration shop website showed them putting 3M body schutz (sp?) on the bottom side before painting. I liked the look and the idea, today's materials probably being better than that thick crap they used to spray all over everything.

I am definitely not a concours guy, I just build the cars to drive. So perfection is not really an issue for me (unless you ask my wife, her definition being perfection is when you spend too much time with a car). But there are folks out there who can tell you every detail for authenticity. Sounds like you're gonna have a great car when you get done. It will be done just like you wanted it, whichever way you decide.
