Triumph TR3 - Painting Brake Calipers
| As part of the overall assault this winter on my TR3A's brake system, I'd like to derust and paint the disk brake calipers. From Mr. Piggott's book, I find that silver would be a lovely and accurate color. Any advice on how to derust the calipers without harming any of the openings for the piston or brake lines? Advice on paints to be used? I realize I could just ship them to Fred Thomas and await the perfect powder-coated results, but that would be too easy, and what would I have learned? Thanks for any DIY guidance on this. Bill Stagg 1961 TR3A |

| I took mine completely apart. Pistons and seals out etc. I used duct tape to tape across the cylinder opening. I put in some old rags before so the pressure of the sand blasting wouldn't force the tape into a vacant cavity. Then I had them sand blasted and painted black. Never lost a point at TRA as far as I know, But others have painted (powder coated) them to look like medium to dark gray (like an original clean cast iron part). I suppose it might look like silver but I think that might be too bright. I've seen them red for those who like to see them through their wire wheels. Don |
