Triumph TR3 - paint color of frame
| Getting ready to put a new (to the car) frame under the 59 TR3 . I have seen only one place that said that the frame was painted the same color as the car.Seems that along time ago in an other life the 3 had an accident and the drivers side shock tower was torn loose, the repair left a lot to be desired. Just scabed back together with some bracings missing ect. Any way any info on correct color would be appriciated. |

| When I was doing my full body-off restoration from 1987 to 1990, I cleaned off the original undercoating from the frame with solvent and found that the frame had been painted primrose yellow. My TR3A is black. Frames were mostly black but could have been any other TR colour which was current at about that time. I say "about" because primrose yellow only became a TR3A colour in 1959 and my TR3A is a 1958. I've seen powder blue and red frames too. It is currently the "in thing" to paint the frame a contrasting colour. I re-did mine in black because who would have believed me in 1990 that it had come from the factory in primrose yellow - when they built mine. Don Elliott, Original Owner, 1958 TR3A |
