Triumph TR3 - On the Road Again!
Gentlemen, we have ignition! The winter project has been back on the road for the last week or so, and it's been a blast. The good news is that the new heater works without leaking (just in time for summer), the electric fan takes care of the heat, the windshield wipers are now present and accounted for, any number of oil leaks have been plugged (but not all gone), all electrics are now behaving, and a thousand other things have been attended to. We have, I dare say, a fine example of the breed back on the road. Literally hundreds of hours have been spent during the past four months while the car was on jackstands for the quasi-restoration, and the time was always satisfying. While we have miles to go before we're done (long list), we do have motion, and then some. I'm eternally grateful for the help received from everyone through this BBS, especially from Don, Russ, Berry, Dennis, Chuck, Mike G and Mike P. I'd never even driven a TR before falling in love with this one last October, and you folks have been spectacular helping me get to know the car. Thanks, guys. I'm buying a round in Auburn for all of you who can make it. Can you believe TRA is in my back yard this year? One thing leads to another, of course, so look for more postings from me soon. But for now, things are great and getting even better. What a kick. Cheers, guys! Bill Stagg 1961 TR3A

Bill-Congratulations on the restoration and successfull launch. My maiden voyage (a 250 mile trip to a show) turned out to be one of the most entertaining and memorable. Two tires suffered separated plies and the vibration caused an internal connection in the battery to fail. Push starts and hand cranking made for interesting comments from strangers. Thanks for sharing your project, as it provides much of the enjoyment of doing the work without the frustrations.

Bill - Great news. As Berry says, we enjoyed the effort and we didn't have to even get our hands dirty. I'll take you up on the offer at TRA. In between, I'll be 10 days in England, then a week in Lyon, France (Oui, je parle français courrament) then back to England till the end of May. Don Elliott, 1958 TR3A

Congratulations Bill, and yes I know what you mean when you yes Oh what a feeling! The last 2 weeks I’ve put on about 300 miles in my TR “Oh what a feeling!!” From you past threads the last year or so, it sounds like you did a whole lot of work. Something to be very proud of. If your still up to a road trip Saturday the 10th is Paul’s open house. Also I wanted to say thanks as well to Don, Chuck, and the Mikes. With people like these to help and give advice where would we all be? “ still in our garages tiring to figure out how this or that goes back together”. Great Work Russ

Hey, great news Bill. Glad to hear that your adventure turned out well. So are you having fun yet? I thought so. I too had never driven a Triumph prior to deciding a TR3 was the one I wanted. What a blast! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped me with my dilemas these past few months. (although I'm not finished yet) This forum has been a great resource and a lot of fun to use. I was reading the threads on here long before I bought my car and was amazed at how many people actually owned these autos, and at the availability of parts. To all who have contributed: thanks again, guys. The Auburn offer sounds good, Bill. Mike G. '56 TR3
