Triumph TR3 - OD engagement
Hi guys with OD: Maybe some of you with OD could let me know approximately how many seconds it takes for you to engage OD from the flick of the switch to full engagement when running at apprx.3000rpm. Thanks Chuck '58 TR3A

Almost immediately. On a hot summers day, I have to ease up for a split second on the gas sometimes for it to quit slipping. But on cold days like these with 20W50 Valvoline "Racing" Oil in the gearbox + overdrive, it shifts in like the automatic tranny in your family car. Why ? What's happening ? Don Elliott, 1958 TR3A

Hi Don: I have not had a chance to do any road testing yet(will do in the next few days)I am just gathering some preliminary info. My OD is from a '61 and the hyd.pressure is about 350 PSI according to my test bench results.According to OD Spares in the UK that is correct and the earlier ones were 400-450 psi and gave a much harsher(and quicker?)engagement.Hence my question.I will keep you posted.

Everything sounds perfect to me. Don

Hi Don: I finally had a chance to road test my OD.From selection to engagement is approx.1 second and it seems to work perfectly.Engagement,as in your case is particularly smooth if you ease up slightly on the throttle as you flip the switch. If the engine is under load the engagement is much harsher.
