Triumph TR3 - Never saw one of these before
| A rev limiting rotor. Not that any of my engines would need it, unless the throttle stuck open. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LUCAS-Rev-Limiter-Rotor-Jensen-Healey-TR3-MGA-Lotus-MGB_W0QQitemZ8061051621QQcategoryZ33688QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Just thought some of you may be interested. |

| They pop up every once in a while on eBay. Pretty neat. I like how the seller states: "This is a 7000 rpm (3500 rpm at the distributor- turns at 1/2 engine speed) rev limiter. This would make a nice safety factor for high performance engines to avoid overrevving especially during break-in." So, I guess he must rev his motors to only 6950 RPM freely during break in procedures. Remind me not to hire him on. :-) As far as this item goes, it is a mechanical way of controlling your revs, but as far as I understand, not adjustable. I know people that run their race motors to 7200 and 7800, so this does not do them any good and those that only run their motor to 6500- same issue. Also, mechanical ways of doing things that can also be done by a computer are less reliable. A modern rev limiter can give a "soft touch" rev limiting or even retard the spark which can be easier then just shutting down the ignition all together. All that said, I would like one like this on my shelf as a novelty item. -BMC. |
