Triumph TR3 - metal gauge
What ares the metal gauges of the fenders, floor, A pillar etc? Thanks

I was told they are from a gauging system different than what we use now, and that the fenders equate to approximately 19 gauge. I used 20 gauge for patching and making new floors and certainly would not enjoy working with anything thicker. Usually when you go to buy sheet metal now and say it's for your car, they want to give you 22 gauge. All I can tell you aboutthe A post etc is it's thicker. I think I used 16 to repair them. Jim

I used a combination of 22ga,20ga, and 18ga weldable metal to repair my TR3. I only used tin snips to cut it and 18ga is a challenge but possible. Use a micrometer to measure a part of the metal that is not rusted and you can approximate the correct gauge. 18 is .0478 nominal, .0518 max, .0438 min; 20ga is .0359 nominal, .0389max, .0329min; and 22ga is .0299 nominal, .0328max, .0269min per my supplier. Some 16ga (.0598nom, .0648max, .0548min)is also needed but I used a hacksaw and grinder for that. hjr
