Triumph TR3 - install headlamp rims

what is the method of installing headlamp rims on a 1959 tr3a?
i have a new pair of rims[moss].
i am having trouble installing the rims at the lower clip on the headlamp bucket.

I have found it similar to installing a hubcap which is to small for the rim. I place the top of the trim ring in place on the top of the headlamp housing first and then push the sides inward and toward the lamp housing base in an effort to allow the brass riveted clip at the base of the trim ring to slip on to the clip receiver on the headlamp housing. This requires quite a bit of pressure to slightly expand the trim ring while pushing firmly inward. If you have someone hold a flashlight or have one in your mouth you might be able to see the clip fasten at the bottom. I have bent that clip at times and have had to straighten it with needle nose pliers a few times as well. I have lately been sneaking a very small thin flat headed screwdriver in between the trim ring and headlamp to spread open the receiving clip to easily accept the clip on the trim ring. Of course this is all held together by some mysterious force of friction but I haven't lost the trim ring yet. It can be frustrating to say the least.

hdw,
thanks for the information.
i will try your method.
the riveted clips on the trim ring are not very strong so i was afraid to force the trim ring too much.
hope the headlite bulbs last a long time once i get the trim rings in place.
